10 Healthy Swaps for Holiday Baking

Holiday time is filled with social events, celebrations and lots of unhealthy foods and calories.  This year, try some of my simple swaps so you can still enjoy your favorite holiday treats without the guilt.

1. Replace Canola Oil with Greek Yogurt

Cut the amount of oil in half and add 3/4 cup of yogurt for every cup of oil that you remove.

Example, if a recipe calls for 2 cups of oil, use 1 cup of oil and 3/4 cup of Greek yogurt instead

2. Replace Flour with Black Bean Puree

I know it sounds gross, but it tastes really good and adds in a lot of fiber

One cup of flour= One cup of black bean puree instead

3. Replace Butter with Banana

1 cup of butter= 1 cup of mashed banana

*You may need to reduce cooking time with this swap.

4. Replace Sugar with Unsweetened Applesauce

You still need to use half of amount of sugar in the recipe.

Example: if the recipe calls for 1 cup of sugar, use 1/2 cup of sugar and 1/2 of cup applesauce. You should also reduce the recipe’s main liquid by about 1/4 for every cup of applesauce added.

5. Replace All purpose Flour with Blanched Almond Flour

3/4 coups all purpose flour=1 1/2 cups almond flour

6. Replace Sugar with Vanilla Extract

Cut out half the sugar and replace it with a teaspoon of vanilla extract.

7. Replace Chocolate Chips with Cacao Nibs (unprocessed chocolate)

Cacao nibs can completely replace chocolate chips in any recipe! They have no sugar and are loaded with antioxidants

8. Replace Chocolate Chips with Mini Chocolate Chips

Use 1 cup of mini morsels instead of 2 cups of regular-sized chips.

9. Replace Frozen or Canned Fruit with Fresh Fruit

10. Replace Peanut Butter with Natural Almond Butter

Peanut butter-Natural Almond butter (no artificial additives or added sugar)
