SMALL STEPS

I am really proud of myself today! After months of practice and many unsuccessful attempts, I finally walked across the balance beam without falling off! It was only for a very short distance, maybe 30 seconds at the most. But, this was HUGE for me since not too long ago I couldn’t even stand up, let alone walk or balance. Over the past nine months, I’ve learned to celebrate and hold onto wins like these, especially on days when I am feeling pretty defeated.

I’m back. Sort of. Kind of.

A year ago, in my wildest dreams, I never could have predicted the unexpected turn (or should I say fall) 2018 would have in store for me. In literally one quick second, everything changed. I had a bad accident. In my case, I fell out of a moving golf cart, shattering my right leg and ankle. This resulted in excruciating pain, major surgery and required 14 pieces of metal - rods, plates and screws - to put me back together. Crazy. Unexpected. True. I have been out of commission and on the road to recovery for six months (so far) and I’ve been told it will be at least another six to go before I am back to my old self.  “Catastrophic” is how my doctor referred to it.  Just in case you are wondering, I was not drunk. And for the record, I don’t play or even like golf.

Some people can’t function without caffeine. Not me! Water is what gets me going and helps me through my day!  For as long as I can remember, I drink a huge glass of water every morning right when I wake up. And I continue to drink water at every meal and throughout the day. My body seriously can’t function without it—ice water, hot water with lemon, bottled water, filtered water, seltzer water.
